![]() Thun, to be honest is very nice and a popular place for people to live that commute to Bern. To the south of Bern is the lake of Thun and in this valley, the weather is usually sunnier than other the north of Bern. Basically, Bern is just a small city and if you follow the train lines, you hit most communities that you'd want to live in without a car. ![]() Well, I live just outside of Thun and my wife works in Bern Buempliz/Westside area. Thanks for any and all thoughts on the matter. Would anyone say "heck no, stay in Bern" or "Ostermundgen is the greatest ever"? Are we going to be limited if we don't have a car if we're 5-10 km away? Thoughts? Are there any favorite town/villages around Bern? Areas within Bern? The Breitenrain area I have heard is nice. 3.5 - 5 room is the range we're looking for. We probably won't have a car and will be relying on the bus/tram what have you, and will be looking for ease of shopping for necessities and nice play areas. So, high level question, what do people think about living in Bern proper vs. Even though I have liked a few apartments, I have no idea that the town is like. For some reason, I've really liked a few of the apartments I've seen in Müri bei Bern, but over the past 4 months I have seen most of them come and go. I've been told Ittigen is nice, but that's about it (except that Fabian Cancellara lives there). but what I don't yet quite have a feel for are the various surrounding communities. I have been using homegate, immoscout and comparis to get a feel for what is available and for how much. My wife, son (3 yrs) and I are moving to Bern here in a few weeks. Ok, I'm hijacking this thread a bit but I want to ask a very similar question about areas in and around Bern so I thought it appropriate to add it to the same thread rather than start a new one.
